Manchester United manager Michael Carrick is under pressure at Old Trafford after a disappointing start to the season.

A number of managers are being linked with potentially taking over at United as they sit in the bottom half of the Premier League table.

The Red Devils also suffered a disappointing defeat away at Atletico Madrid during the week in the Champions League, which has put further pressure on the manager.

Although the result in isolation isn't a disaster, the disappointing season does just appear to be getting worse and worse.

Lisandro Martinez also spoke out about the United board following their defeat to Atletico, questioning the technical director for the lack of signings.

Martinez has now apologised for his outburst, but he was fined by the club. GIVEMESPORT understands that he will be available for the game against Leeds if Carrick opts to pick him, but it remains to be seen whether he'll be in the squad.

It does appear that Carrick is going to remain in charge of United as it stands, but anything could happen in the coming weeks if results get worse.

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has consistently hinted that Conte could be open to joining Manchester United.

Although Romano hasn't specifically said Conte would join the club, he's regularly claimed that he is open to taking a job mid-season and wants to join a historical side.

"What I can tell you is that probably the biggest story in the story regarding Antonio Conte is that compared to other situations in the past, when Antonio Conte always wanted to wait for a new season, have the preseason, have his own squad. In this case, Antonio Conte would be open this year. In general, this is not just for Man United.

"Antonio Conte would be open to taking a job mid-season. So whether it's Man United, or something in Italy, or different opportunities, Antonio Conte, if it's an historical club, because he doesn't want to go to the Middle East, just get the money, and go back to Europe in a few years.

"His idea is to continue in Europe. Historical club. Conte said in an interview a few days ago. He said, "If there is a club with big history who want to go back to their little, I would be open. So Antonio Conte is for sure open to these opportunities. Now let's see if it's going to be again Man United, if Carrick goes, or an Italian club, or any surprise."

Conte's requirements for his next role certainly fit that of United, and there's every chance they are looking for a new manager n the near future.

Conte undoubtedly an upgrade on Carrick

Conte Napoli

Conte is an elite-level manager who has won trophies in multiple different leagues throughout his career.

He would undoubtedly be an upgrade on Carrick, who is incredibly inexperienced in comparison to Conte.

Conte has even won the Premier League title previously, so he understands what it takes to build a successful team in England.

A Data Table Depicting Antonio Conte (Managerial Career - Elite Level) Including Napoli, Tottenham, Inter Milan,

Carrick did an excellent job in helping United qualify for the Champions League last season, but they've taken a huge step back so far this campaign.

United were without European football last term and minimal distractions, often facing sides who were playing in Europe.

Conte would take United to the next level, and if they opt to make a change in the dugout, he should be at the top of their list.
