"He is not going to bother flying home" - Jonas Vingegaard said to be training hard in Spain ahead of 2027 season

The 2027 Tour de France route will be presented this week, and within the favourites there is already work to get up to speed towards next season. Jonas Vingegaard has reportedly begun training already, and using a Spanish hub to seize the good weather.

Vingegaard's schedule for the upcoming season is not decided on and most likely will only be shaped after the reveal of both Tour and Giro d'Italia routes, however for any case he should be prepared.

“I have heard from reliable sources that he has fire in his eyes. He has started training for next year. He is so professional that if he is down in Mallorca training, he is not going to bother flying home," Brian Holm said on the Cafe Eddy podcast.

This past winter, aside from the team training camps, Vingegaard has spent time in Spain preparing for the 2026 season. He notably fell ill and also crashed due to an amateur rider following him at the time, which delayed his first race.

A year of ups and downs for Vingegaard

Nevertheless the results could not be ignored, with comfortable overall wins at Paris-Nice and the Volta a Catalunya; and an ideal run to conquer his first Giro d'Italia.

The Dane then took part in another altitude camp over the month of June to prepare for the Tour de France, in which he entered as Tadej Pogacar's main rival once again.

He was second in the overall classification when, on stage 15, he suffered a crash and fractured a collarbone. The withdrawal from the race was immediate, and his season ended in that location.

Three months have already gone by, but the Dane made the decision not to return to racing this year, despite occasional speculation. Tadej Pogacar's season later ended as well with a crash at the Vuelta a España.
