The 2027 Tour de France will return to Great Britain, thirteen years since its last visit in 2014. The Grand Depart in Edinburgh, Scotland will be a spectacular event, before riders visit England and Wales in the subsequent stages. But not all parts of the programme in Edinburgh will be free to attend, as is usual in cycling.

While the race itself kicks off on Friday, July 2, the team presentation is scheduled already two days prior on June 30.

The event will be hosted in the Edinburgh Castle and presented by the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, celebrating Scottish culture as well as showcasing the riders on stage in front of the public. With a restricted access, only those who have bought a ticket will be able step onto the venue, Cyclingnews reports.

The tickets sale opens on October 23 for Grand Départ GB newsletter subscribers, followed by UK cycling federations members, organizing party's (Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo) customers. The general public's turn starts on Friday October 30, 12:00 local time. Tickets are priced at £27 / €32 / $36 .

Not an entirely new concept (in UK)

This is not the first time (a part) of Tour de France event has been ticketted, there's generally no fee to witness cycling first-hand. Coincidentally, the most recent example of fans having to pay to witness the team presentation was in 2014... when the race last started in Britain.

"Featuring Highland dancers, massed pipes and drums, and new music created specially for the occasion, the ceremony will celebrate Scotland's culture and creativity while marking the start of an historic Grand Départ," the organisers' press release stated.

"While the opening ceremony and presentation of the riders take place on the Esplanade of Edinburgh Castle, the celebrations will extend beyond its walls, giving fans across Scotland’s capital the chance to see the riders en route to the Castle and join in the festivities ahead of the Grand Départ," it adds.
