Manchester City will reportedly look to sign Malo Gusto during the upcoming January transfer window if Chelsea lower their asking price.
Article continues under the videoEnzo Maresca’s side were strongly linked with a move for the France international over the summer, but they were unwilling to match Chelsea’s €90 million transfer fee demand and the proposed deal eventually collapsed.
However, City were unable to bolster their right-back options before the end of Deadline Day, and they retain a keen interest in Gusto as a result, according to TEAMtalk.
It’s understood that Gusto remains on Man City’s transfer radar, with the eight-time Premier League champions ready to revisit a potential deal if Chelsea are willing to lower their asking price to a more manageable price.
A deal will be impacted if City receive a hefty punishment from the Premier League for 114 financial breaches, with the club currently awaiting the result of their appeal, but they are reportedly keen to bring Gusto to the Etihad Stadium if possible.
The Frenchman played a key role during Maresca’s time as Chelsea manager, however he has fallen down the pecking order since the appointment of Xabi Alonso and he has played just two minutes across the Blues’ last four Premier League matches.
Pedro Neto has been favoured in a wing-back role so far this term, summer signing Marco Palestra has now returned to full fitness, while Josh Acheampong has been used ahead of Gusto as an orthodox right-back in recent weeks.
It has been reported that Gusto remains happy at Chelsea, but it’s claimed that his stance could change if he continues to struggle for consistent game time, with Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain potentially set to rival Man City for his signature in 2027.
Chelsea were open to selling Gusto over the summer and it’s highly likely that a deal will be agreed next year if the club receive a tempting financial offer.
He is one of several stars who are expected to depart Stamford Bridge on a permanent transfer in 2027, with Benoit Badiashile, Alejandro Garnacho, Robert Sanchez, Axel Disasi, Mykhailo Mudryk and Filip Jorgensen all set to be sold after their loan spells away from the club.
Meanwhile, Estevao Willian is growing increasingly frustrated by his lack of game time so far this season and may push for a transfer, and fellow attacker Jamie Gittens faces an uncertain future after a proposed summer move to AS Roma fell through.
