Denver Broncos wide receiver Jaylen Waddle (chest) "suffered an aggravation of his previous chest injury" on Sunday, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. His status for this weekend's game against the Kansas City Chiefs "will be determined at a later time," according to Rapoport. That seems to be a roundabout way of saying Waddle has an uncertain status going into Week 8.
Waddle went down in the fourth quarter after a botched end-around. After landing on his own fumble, Waddle initially stayed on the ground before later walking to the sideline and then walking into the locker room with staff members. After an eventual 30-16 win, Broncos coach Sean Payton apologized for calling the "dumb" play that led to Waddle's injury.
Denver announced Waddle as questionable to return against the Arizona Cardinals, but the 27-year-old receiver did not finish the game. He was previously limited in two days of practice last week with a chest injury.
Waddle caused a bit of a panic when he was spotted wearing a walking boot after a game earlier this season, but that foot injury did not cause him to miss any games. Waddle also had an injury scare against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 6, but later returned to the game.
The dinged-up receiver has totaled 26 receptions for 276 yards and one touchdown through the first seven games of the season. That's surely not the kind of production the Broncos were hoping for when they traded a first-round draft pick (and more) to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for Waddle earlier this year.
