There was plenty of entertainment for the neutral as Rangers were held to a 2-2 draw against Dundee at Dens Park.
The hosts capitalised on a slow start by the Gers to take the lead through Bradley Fink. It was hard to argue against it, as they were the better team until then.
However, their lead was short-lived, courtesy of a breathtaking finish by Badredine Bouanani, who made it 1-1.
Nicolas Raskin then managed to upstage his teammate with a magnificent long-range effort to give his side the lead in the second half of the contest.
That was not the final goal of the game, with Callum Jones adding a second for the hosts, capitalising on a defensive error from the visitors.
A lot was made about Bouanani replacing Kevin Kelsy in the starting eleven in the build-up to the game. Fans believed that Derek McInnes was looking to fix something that was not broken.
However, by starting the Algerian, Minsu Kim could have more space centrally, and more importantly, the Light Blues had a left-footed dribbler on the right wing who’s capable of taking defenders on and scoring goals.
What do you make of the ratings?
Bouanani’s goal will definitely make the headlines, as it should, but he also could have scored a second around the hour mark. It was another effort from distance and Owen Goodman barely got his fingertips to it.
With this performance, the winger showed why he could become one of McInnes’ first names on the team sheet.
Dan Neil has been the captain in Lawrence Shankland’s absence and has done well in the Scotland international’s stead. However, the game at Dens Park was not one of the occasions.
The Rangers midfielder looked off it right from the start, losing possession on numerous occasions and also not doing enough off the ball. Instead of commanding his teammates to hold their shape and take control of the game, he failed to get a hold of himself and that showed in his performance.
He made a huge error in the concession of the second goal, wasting too much time on the ball after receiving it from Nicolas Raskin. The Dundee attackers dispossessed him high up the pitch and that saw the hosts get back in the contest.
In the 74th minute, he had a chance to make amends at the other end of the pitch, but he failed to make clean contact with the ball. Had he done so, the ball would’ve headed straight into the back of the net.
