Pedro Porro has been one of Tottenham Hotspur’s few consistent performers in the last couple of years. It looked like he would be one of the players leaving the club in the major overhaul this summer, but the arrival of Roberto De Zerbi persuaded him to stay and sign a new contract.
The right-back committed his future to Spurs by signing a new five-year contract over the summer. They have the option to extend it by another 12 months. Pedro Porro then went on to win the World Cup with Spain, enhancing his reputation as one of the best full-backs in Europe.
Despite getting tied down until 2031, Real Madrid and Barcelona have been showing interest in signing Porro. The Spanish giants are exploring a move for the Tottenham defender next summer.
According to an exclusive report from TEAMtalk, Tottenham would want around £75m to consider Porro’s exit in 2027. That valuation would smash the current world-record transfer fee for a right-back, which stands at the £57m PSG paid Inter Milan for Achraf Hakimi in 2021.
It recently emerged that Porro wants to return to his homeland. Barcelona and Real Madrid can offer the 27-year-old a route back to Spanish football. Tottenham, at least, are in a commanding position over the full-back’s future after he signed a new deal until 2031. He still has five years left on his deal, meaning the Lilywhites are well within their rights to ask for a £75m premium to even ponder his departure.
The fee could prove decisive in determining whether Real Madrid or Barcelona turn their interest into a formal transfer bid. Interest in the Spanish international might create the possibility of competition between the La Liga giants. A bidding war could work in Spurs’ favour and even push the valuation higher for Porro, who feels his time in the Premier League is coming to an end.
The Don Benito native renewed his terms with Tottenham believing the club would build a competitive team under De Zerbi, but the performances and results haven’t been great. The Lilywhites lie 19th in the table after six Premier League rounds, and disappointing results could influence the full-back’s thinking.
It is clear that Spurs are not going to let Porro depart cheaply. Barcelona and Real Madrid, or any other interested club, would require a substantial financial commitment to force the North London outfit’s hand.
