Liverpool could count themselves a little fortunate to come away with three points from Brentford on Saturday as they benefitted from a silly Yehor Yarmolyuk red card.
Yarmolyuk moved his head in the direction of Jeremy Jacquet in needless fashion just before half-time, with Liverpool able to capitalise with goals from Victor Munoz and Alexander Isak.
After falling behind in the first-half, it felt like a huge win for the Reds and for Andoni Iraola, but according to former Liverpool winger Steve McManaman, the overall performance should be cause for concern.

Liverpool come from behind to beat 9-man Brentford! What were your main takeaways from the game? 🤔 We were clinging on a bit at the end…
After Yarmolyuk saw red, this game was always going to be seen through the lens of his moment of madness. As it did for Man City last weekend, the sending off ultimately handed Liverpool victory on a platter.
Unlike City at Anfield, though, the Reds still had to work to overturn a deficit, and they deserve to be pleased with their three points.
Not, it seems, according to McManaman. Speaking to Premierleague.com after the match, the pundit claimed that there had been some ‘strange’ and ‘disjointed’ elements about Liverpool’s display in West London.
“Great victory for Liverpool. I thought it was a strange disjointed performance, but the result, going 1-0 down and coming back to win, eases the pressure,” he said.
“It’s a brilliant result but the performance? The game management, even against nine at the end, was poor – it was nervous right to the final whistle.”
Although McManaman is right in a sense, Liverpool also had plenty of chances to put the game to bed, and though they could have managed things a little better, they were never in any serious danger of Brentford scoring. The Bees will be seen as valiant losers, but Liverpool still deserved their win regardless.
