According to Football Insider, Newcastle are considering a move for Ivan Toney as they look to strengthen their attack during the January transfer window. The Magpies have apparently made the striker one of their leading targets amid concerns over their current goalscoring options.
The 30-year-old has been linked with a return to the Premier League since leaving Brentford for Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli in 2024. Newcastle are believed to view him as a proven solution to their attacking problems.
A key factor in any potential deal is Newcastle manager Matthias Jaissle, who previously worked with Toney at Al-Ahli. The report notes that the pair developed a strong relationship in Saudi Arabia, where the England international scored 72 goals in 93 appearances under the German coach.
Newcastle are determined to bring in a striker after inconsistent returns from their current forwards. Toney’s Premier League experience, goalscoring record and existing connection with Jaissle make him an ideal candidate from their point of view.
Manchester United are also among the clubs monitoring Toney’s situation, potentially creating competition if the striker becomes available in January.
