The 2026-27 NFL season has had a disastrous start for the Los Angeles Chargers. After an offseason of hope with quarterback Justin Herbert being paired with offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel, it has amounted to a 0-5 record and potentially 0-6, with a road game against the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs up next.
As such, the Chargers could be a potential “sell” team at the NFL trade deadline, but a recent report suggests that won’t be the case.
To set the table on how bad this season has been thus far for the Chargers, here are three important stats: the Chargers are 31st in PFN’s NFL Offense Impact grade with a 68.6 grade, 27th in PFN’s NFL Team Impact rankings with a 71.2 grade, and Herbert is 34th in PFN’s NFL QB Impact grade with a 60.6 grade.
For context, Herbert ranks last among 34 eligible quarterbacks in PFN’s QB Impact rankings. This season, Herbert has completed 59.4% of his passes for 937 yards, five touchdowns, and seven interceptions, tied for the league lead.
This level of play and this start have fans, and even former Chargers players, wondering whether a trade is possible. Former Chargers player Breiden Fehoko thinks Herbert landing with the Minnesota Vikings could be the best move for him.
All that being said, it appears the Chargers aren’t planning a fire sale, per a report from Tom Pelissero of “The Ringer.”
“The Chargers have rejected trade calls, believing they’re close to turning things around after an 0-5 start and making no plans to hold a fire sale,” Pelissero reported on X.
That said, on his Substack, Pelissero listed several possible trade candidates, as Alex Insdorf of “Bolt Breakdowns” noted the player names in an X post.
This report has fans shocked, with one fan writing, “Oh man, hilarious franchise dawg.”
“We have the most delusional front office in the entire league. What have they been watching this season? They were saying things were about to turn around at 0-3, now 0-5, what about at 0-7?” another fan said.
As the fan pointed out, 0-7 is possible.
Before the Nov. 10 trade deadline, the Chargers face the Chiefs, Los Angeles Rams, and Houston Texans, with a Week 7 bye in between. There’s a legitimate chance they go into the trade deadline winless.
“They lost to the Cardinals. How are they not in sell mode?” someone else said, referencing the Chargers’ Week 1 26-14 home loss to the Arizona Cardinals.
We’ll see how the Chargers do on Sunday against the Chiefs.
