Report: Philip Rivers is “expected to be in the mix” for NC State job

Former NFL quarterback Philip Rivers interviewed for the Bills’ head-coaching job in January. He could be getting an interview at the college level next.

Via Pete Thamel of ESPN, Rivers is “expected to be in the mix” for the head-coaching job at NC State.

Rivers played for the Wolfpack from 2000 to 2003, before becoming the fourth pick in the 2004 NFL draft. He played for the Chargers from 2004 through 2019. Rivers spent 2020 with the Colts before retiring. He returned late last year to start three games for the Colts, after Indianapolis lost starter Daniel Jones to a torn Achilles tendon.

Rivers has coached high-school football in Alabama since 2021. His son, Gunner, has committed to play at NC State in 2027.

The job became open on Saturday. Dave Doeren, who spent 14 seasons at NC State, was fired after Friday night’s loss to Stanford.
