Amad Diallo has proved a shrewd signing for Manchester United.
Five years on from first putting pen to paper for the club, joining as an 18-year-old in a £19m deal from Atalanta, it’s hard to argue against the Ivorian being worth it.
While the now-24-year-old is hardly a star player for the Red Devils, he has become a staple in the squad, scoring 15 goals in the last three seasons following a loan spell at Sunderland, where he became a cult hero in just 42 appearances.
Diallo’s latest Manchester United start came at Elland Road, where the Red Devils drew 1-1 with rivals Leeds United.
The game marked the winger’s 100th appearance for Manchester United, a landmark milestone.
Amad marked the occasion with a statement on Instagram, posting his appreciation, “100 matches in a Manchester United shirt. A source of immense pride and an honour I will never take for granted.
“Thank you to my teammates, the staff, and the fans who have been with me on this journey. Wearing this shirt means representing a rich history and giving my absolute best in every single match.
“But my ambition doesn’t stop at a number of appearances: I want to win trophies with this club. Together with my teammates, I want us to build something we can be proud of—and to give our fans the emotions they truly deserve.”
It’s a nice tribute, and Amad has been worthy of the three-digit appearance number.
However, the winger needs to step up now. Manchester United are on a six-game winless run in all competitions, and Amad is yet to score for his club in 2026, with his last goal coming in December 2025 against AFC Bournemouth.
After lighting up the World Cup for Ivory Coast, scoring three goals during the tournament, Amad is on a serious drought.
He’ll know as well as anybody that things need to improve, for everybody involved at Old Trafford.
