Celtic player ratings vs Hibernian: Kasper Hogh gets lowest rating for another dismal display

Celtic were made to work for their three points against Hibernian on Sunday at Easter Road.

Camilo Duran secured the points for Martin O’Neill’s side, who had to come from behind to maintain their four-point lead at the top of the Premiership table.

Goalkeeper

Sam Johnstone 7/10

Another start for Sam Johnstone, and he is getting better in the colours of Celtic. The opening fault wasn’t his fault, but his teammates switching off.

Johnstone did his job, looked comfortable and calm on the ball, as well as rushing out and making a brilliant clearance at the start of the second half.

Defence

Colby Donovan 8/10

Played around 50 minutes before being replaced by the returning Alistair Johnston. From a defensive aspect, he produced several high-quality moments to deny Hibs from scoring. The improvement Colby Donovan has made to his game is so great to see.

Dane Murray 5/10

Dane Murray hasn’t taken his chance during Cameron Carter-Vickers’ spell on the sidelines. Expect him to be back on the bench again.

Liam Scales 5/10

Just now and again, Liam Scales would produce a few iffy defensive moments and then produce a brilliant moment. It was the same story against Hibs.

Kieran Tierney 6/10

Celtic’s left-back did his job from a defensive aspect, but he wasn’t as threatening going forward or as lively as he usually is. Perhaps that’s down to the number of games he has started recently.

Midfield

Mika Baur 7/10

With and without the ball, Mika Baur is improving, and he produced a strong display at Easter Road. Whether it’s tracking a Hibs player without the ball, or collecting the ball while trying to build up play from deep, it’s all much better from the summer signing.

Callum McGregor 5/10

A mixed game from the Celtic skipper. On the one hand, he would get on the ball and try to control the match for Celtic, but then he would be an issue without it.

This is where Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain should get minutes or starts, but he doesn’t, and that’s another issue in itself.

Benjamin Nygren 4/10

Why Benjamin Nygren stayed on the pitch for the full game is beyond me. Not only was he at fault for switching off for the free-kick that led to Hibs’ opening goal, but he didn’t exactly provide much with and without the ball.

Attack

Camilo Duran 6/10

An interesting game from Celtic’s goalscorer. On the one hand, in the first half, Duran produced many frustrating moments with and without the ball.

Whether the Colombian star sulks because he has to play out wide, only he can tell us that, but he certainly plays like it.

Despite that, Duran managed to score a brilliant goal to put the champions of Scotland ahead just before the break, but in terms of overall performance, he has played much, much better than this.

Kasper Hogh 2/10

O’Neill gave Kasper Hogh the confidence by starting him at Easter Road when he didn’t need to, but he failed to produce once again.

There were two chances Hogh had in the first half. The second, a chance from point-blank range, was shot straight at the opposing keeper.

Celtic’s club-record transfer then only had a few touches in the second half before being subbed off around the hour mark.

Callum Osmand 7/10

Sometimes that final ball would let Callum Osmand down, but you can see the quality he has in the final third.

His movement, how he runs at opposition and how he retains the ball were on show against Hibs. Just that decision-making was lacking from the young forward.

  • SUBS: Alistair Johnston (N/A), Jota (6.5/10), Haissem Hassan (6/10), Cameron Carter-Vickers (7/10) and Shim Mheuka (5/10).
