Arsenal transfer news: Arsenal wanted a striker. Julian Alvarez was the dream, the name drifting round the Emirates all summer, and Atletico Madrid simply wouldn’t budge. So the recruitment team needed a second plan, and fast. The name they landed on tells you plenty about how Mikel Arteta’s club thinks.
According to a report relayed by Transfer Feed, that name was Eli Junior Kroupi, the 20-year-old Bournemouth forward. Getting him would have cost around €100m. Then came an injury, and the interest never reached proper negotiations. Sport adds a twist: Barcelona may or may not come back for him, and there’s no guarantee he’s a priority for them in summer 2027. If they step away, Arsenal’s path gets clearer.
Kroupi left Lorient for Bournemouth in 2025 and hasn’t looked back. He’s sharp in the box, calm when the chance arrives, and he presses like he’s got something to prove. Defenders hate that last bit.
Arteta loves forwards who hunt the ball high up the pitch, then link play without fuss. Kroupi ticks both boxes. Right now Viktor Gyökeres leads the line, with Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus pushing for minutes. Gyökeres is a bruiser. Kroupi is a flicker of lightning, quicker and lighter on his feet, so he’d offer Arteta something different.
Not at €100 million, no. That’s a huge punt on a 20-year-old coming back from injury, and Arsenal already have Gyökeres leading the attack. Spending that much on a striker who’d start as the understudy makes little sense in a squad with plenty of big wages to protect.
The timing helps, though. Bournemouth can’t hold the line forever if Barcelona cool off, and a quieter market usually softens asking prices. Arsenal could wait, watch his recovery, and move when the fee feels fair. Arteta has never been shy about waiting for the right piece.
Gyökeres is 28. Within two seasons, the club needs a long-term answer, and Kroupi suits that timeline neatly. But the number has to come down. Sixty to seventy million, with the fitness checks done, would be sensible business.
