Alessio Dionisi unaware of Watford ownership frustration

On Friday, Roy Moore, the founder of The 1881 Movement, an official Watford supporter group, will meet with Pozzo to discuss fans' increasing frustrations about his running of the club.

It is a topic which has ramped up since last Saturday's 4-0 defeat at home to Burnley, after which legendary former chairman, Sir Elton John, triggered an explosion of criticism with his own comments on Instagram, where he expressed sadness over the Hornets' decline.

Another thrashing, this time a 5-1 loss in Cardiff, followed and, ahead of Saturday's visit of Charlton Athletic, optimism is an ancient relic around the club.

But as pressure mounts on Pozzo, Hornets boss Dionisi has revealed that he is unaware of any such noise, and that it has not reached his squad.

"I didn't know this," Dionisi admitted. "I'm sorry because, for us, it's better if we believe, if we work together for the same result.

"But, inside the team, that message [about pressure on Pozzo] hasn't arrived, because it's important to stay out of that situation, because we have a lot of players without experience."

When asked about the flurry of recent statements by Sir Elton and other popular figures and supporter groups, Dionisi was quick to defend their right to speak out, insisting that it is a natural part of his job as head coach.

"I have a lot of respect for everyone. I am sorry for this result, but you know, football is wonderful because everyone can speak.

"There are supporters, there are journalists, there is the media, there are a lot of people in the world, it is normal.

"But it's my job, I've been a coach for 14 years. In my past, there have been negative moments and positive moments."

There had been doubts over Dionisi's own future, but the Italian will lead Watford against Charlton on Saturday, and has criticised "fake news" reports of his sacking.
