Vijay Singh still has some gas in the tank.
The 63-year-old World Golf Hall of Fame member and Ponte Vedra Beach resident logged four birdies during a six-hole stretch at the Prestonwood Country Club in Cary, N.C., on Oct. 18 and with a closing 69 pulled away from a three-way tie with Freddie Jacobson and Tim O'Neal to win the PGA Tour Champions SAS Championship at 9-under-par 207.
Singh finished two shots clear of fellow Hall of Fame member Ernie Els (69) and three ahead of Tag Ridings (70) and Alex Cejka (69), earning $345,000. O'Neal (73) dropped into a tie for fifth and Jacboson (74) tied for 10th.
Singh, who last won on the PGA Tour Champions in 2023 at the Ally Challenge, moved 24 spots up on the money list and is 33rd entering this Schwab Cup Playoffs this week in St. Louis. He has won six times on the PGA Tour Champions and is the seventh-oldest winner.
He is a three-time major champion and winner of 34 PGA Tour events.
Els, on the day after his 57th birthday, was bogey-free and moved to sixth on the Schwab Cup points list, behind Stewart Cink, Zach Johnson, Steven Alker, Padraig Harrington and Retief Goosen.
