Makama credits Clement for role in his development at City

One of the few bright sparks during the Canaries’ dismal start under Liam Manning last season, Makama flourished following Clement’s arrival last November, becoming a key figure in the upturn in fortunes that followed.

The striker went on to score ten of his 13 goals last term under the Belgian before a foot injury sustained during February’s 2-0 win over Blackburn brought a premature end to his first campaign in England’s second tier.

Now, Makama is determined to make up for lost time under a head coach he credits with playing an instrumental role in his development.

“The change from League One to the Championship has been a big step up, especially for a young player like me who was not experienced in this league,” the 22-year-old told the official club programme.

“I think Philippe Clement coming in has helped me develop massively as well, and there’s still a lot more to come.

“It’s been a good past year for me, and I’ve learned a lot of things.

“I’ve tried to listen as much as possible to the manager, to the staff and to all the people around that have my best interests at heart and want me to do well.

“It’s just about taking information on board and using it in the right way to kick on, start getting some goals in the league and improve as much as possible on a personal level and for the team.”

Saturday’s defeat to Portsmouth marked Makama’s sixth appearance of the season, but his first start, with his return to action carefully managed up to that point.

But with prolific forward Toure sidelined until January, the former Lincoln man will need to quickly shoulder more of the goalscoring burden — a responsibility he’s eager to take on now he’s firmly back in the mix.

“It feels really good to be back so far.

“That feeling of stepping back out onto the pitch in front of the fans with all my teammates is something that has made it even more special, coming back from injury,” he added.

“I’m really enjoying it, and I was really happy to get that goal against Middlesbrough.

“Hopefully I can keep it going that way and keep on scoring goals.”
