Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Week 7: Omar Cooper Jr. and Germie Bernard break out

Week 6 gave us a handful of wide receiver breakouts that now headline the best waiver wire adds of the week. Every player in this article is available in at least half of all Yahoo leagues.

▶ Quarterback

Aaron Rodgers, Steelers

Rodgers is currently the QB14 on the back of the fifth-most pass attempts in the league. He has thrown multiple touchdowns in each of his past four games and the Steelers have the fourth-highest pass rate over expected. Now he gets a date with the Saints in France for Week 7. The Saints currently rank 23rd in EPA per dropback allowed and were just picked apart by J.J. McCarthy.

Michael Penix, Falcons

Penix played three quarters of dreadful football but redeemed himself in the fourth with two touchdowns and a pair of two-point conversions. He finished the day with three passing touchdowns and 225 yards. It was his best fantasy outing of the year but his worst real-life performance. He gets another difficult matchup with the 49ers next week, though it also profiles as another shootout.

J.J. McCarthy, Giants

This is a Superflex-only add, but a rather important one. We don’t yet know who the Giants will start in Week 7. Jameis Winston was pulled for McCarthy late in Week 6 and the former Viking lit the world on fire. He threw for 243 yards, a touchdown, and a two-point conversion in the fourth quarter. It’s the most yards for a quarterback in the fourth quarter since 2020 and the most yards in 11 minutes of play in NFL history. In true desperation mode, McCarthy simply chucked the ball up to his superstars and let them win. His 15.6 aDOT is the highest in a game (min. 20 dropbacks) this year. McCarthy played like prime Winston after the real thing flopped. I suspect he’ll get the start next week. If he plays like this again, McCarthy will be in the streaming conversation going forward.

Tanner McKee, Eagles

McKee was dreadful in his first start of the year, throwing for 215 yards and a touchdown on 45 attempts. He ranked 20th out of 27 qualified quarterbacks in EPA per dropback on the week, pending Monday Night Football. Still, the news that Jalen Hurts will be sidelined for the rest of the year means McKee will make several more starts. If you are truly desperate in Superflex leagues, he’s worth an add.

▶ Running Back

Kendre Miller, Saints

Travis Etienne will miss at least one more game while on IR, meaning Kendre Miller will be the Saints’ lead back for another week. He saw 20-of-33 backfield carries in Week 6 and even managed two targets. Miller only went for 72 scoreless yards on his high-volume role, but the touch total was rather impressive for a member of a three-back committee. Miller will have some RB3 life when he takes on the Steelers in a week.

Roschon Johnson, Bears

Johnson has seamlessly stepped in as D’Andre Swift’s backup, getting on the field for exactly 40 percent of the snaps in each of his past two games. Over the past two weeks, Johnson has run a route on 37 percent of Caleb Williams’ dropbacks and is being targeted on 24 percent of those routes. He also snuck in a goal line touchdown on Sunday. His role will evaporate once Kyle Monangai is healthy, but Johnson is a safe bet for a dozen touches per game until that happens.

Bam Knight, Cardinals

Somehow Bam Knight returned. He made eight starts for Arizona last year but began 2026 buried behind Jeremiyah Love and Tyler Allgeier on the depth chart. With Love out for Week 6, the Cardinals simply stuck with a backfield-by-committee, giving Knight 15 carries to Allgeier’s 18. Knight was far more productive, gashing the Rams for 80 yards compared to a measly 38 for Allgeier. Arizona still used Allgeier as the primary option on passing downs, but Knight managed a 40 percent route rate and saw the team’s lone goal line carry. Until Love returns, Knight appears to be the 1B in his backfield.

Jaleel McLaughlin, Browns

McLaughlin and Audric Estime each saw nine carries in Week 6. Estime found the end zone but McLaughlin almost made up for that in PPR formats with four catches. McLaughlin would be a viable RB3/4 for Week 7, but the team should get one or both of Dylan Sampson and Quinshon Judkins back by Sunday. You can add McLaughlin, but the most likely outcome is that he can be cut in a few days.

▶ Wide Receiver

Germie Bernard, Steelers

Rostered in exactly half of all Yahoo leagues as of Sunday night, Bernard qualifies for this article without any caveats and is not a “Not in My League” all-star. Bernard is a perfect fit for Aaron Rodgers, operating as an easy underneath option while creating plenty of extra yards after the catch. He racked up 11 grabs on 12 targets in Week 6 and scored the game-winning touchdown to go long with 87 yards. With Roman Wilson and Michael Pittman both banged up, the second-round pick looks like a weekly WR3. If he’s still out there, Bernard is the player to blow all of your FAAB on.

Omar Cooper Jr., Jets

Cooper was activated off IR over the weekend and immediately looked like the play-making WR2 the Jets hoped they were getting at the end of the first round. The rookie reeled in six catches for 103 yards and a score.

He also had a touchdown called back via an extremely light offensive pass interference on Tim Patrick. We’re working with an extremely small sample, but Cooper is averaging 4.6 yards per route run while being targeted on 28 percent of his routes. Assuming Bernard isn’t available to you, this is the best waiver wire add of the week. I will be getting down 30-40 percent of my FAAB on Cooper.

Tre Tucker, Raiders

Tucker blew up against a vulnerable Buffalo defense with five catches for 97 yards and a pair of touchdowns. It was his first spike week since Week 2, though he had at least four catches for 40 yards in three straight games between the spikes. Tucker has been a different player in Klint Kubiak’s offense. He is on pace for a career high in yards per route run (1.96) and is posting his best season by PFF receiving grade and ESPN’s Overall Score, which combines their metrics on getting open, catching the ball, and producing YAC. He isn’t a true breakout bet like Cooper or Bernard, but Tucker rounds out a big three at receiver this week.

Keenan Allen, Colts

He is inevitable. Allen totaled 11 targets in Week 6. He caught eight of them for 82 yards. He has at least nine targets in three straight games. Josh Downs hasn’t seen that type of receiving volume since Week 3. The ceiling with Allen is rather limited, and his role will take a hit if Tyler Warren is back from his groin injury next week. On the other hand, he has posted top-20 fantasy numbers in two of his past three starts. He should at least be rostered in most leagues.

Kendrick Bourne, Cardinals

Bourne has taken Marvin Harrison Jr.’s spot in the lineup and is already a more productive WR2 for the Cardinals. He has exactly five catches on eight targets in each of his past two games. Bourne has racked up 117 yards over the past two weeks. Bourne isn’t going to threaten for a breakout season, but he’s not a bad add if you desperately need WR4 points.

Jaylin Noel, Texans

Noel had been percolating under the surface before Week 6 with efficient per-route numbers in a part-time role. He broke out in London with four catches for 107 yards and a touchdown. He’s now averaging over 2.5 yards per route run and is on pace for nearly 1,000 yards. The bad news is that his route rate remained capped at 61 percent in Week 6, meaning the fantasy success wasn’t underpinned by an improved role. Fantasy managers can hope that his role grows, but it’s hard to bank on that with Tank Dell set to return and Marvin Harrison Jr. in town.

Jahan Dotson, Falcons

Dotson is quietly stacking games, with at least 50 yards in back-to-back-to-back weeks and two touchdowns over that stretch. His route rate climbed to 92 percent in Week 6. Dotson is more of a threat to Kyle Pitts’ role than the Falcons WR3s are a threat to Dotson. He’s in the FLEX mix for Week 7 against the 49ers.

Keon Coleman, Bills

Coleman has scored in three straight weeks. He has 11 catches for 182 yards over that stretch. DJ Moore left Week 4 early and missed the next two games, meaning Coleman’s production has come in the absence of Buffalo’s WR1. With a bye on tap for Week 7, Moore should be healthy by the next time we see the Bills. That makes Coleman a stash only in rather deep leagues.

Travis Hunter, Jaguars

The Jags get Week 7 off after a two-game road trip to London, so this is a stash for Week 8 and beyond. Hunter finally saw his usage on offense tick up on Sunday, catching four passes for 59 yards and a score. He only ran seven routes, but Brian Thomas Jr. wasn’t far ahead with just 13 routes. Liam Coen benched BTJ in the second half and used Hunter as a part-time wideout. Whether this two-way role finally sticks is anyone’s guess, but there are worse stashes in deep leagues.

▶ Tight End

Michael Mayer, Raiders

Tight end is a true wasteland on waivers. Mayer is technically a backup. In reality, he’s the Raiders’ starting tight end and Brock Bowers is the team’s WR1. Since Bowers returned in Week 3, Mayer has a 67 percent route rate with a 15 target share. He is averaging 11.5 PPR points per game over the past month. Mayer is averaging more fantasy points with Bowers healthy than he was when the star tight end was sidelined.

Darnell Washington, Steelers

Pat Freiermuth was banged up in Week 6, forcing him to split snaps with Washington. The Steelers’ multiple absences at wide receiver, however, put the team in 12-personnel more often, which increased the number of tight end routes up for grabs. Washington, in turn, ran 55 percent of the routes, logged a 14 percent target share, and finished the week as a low-end TE1 on the back of a short touchdown. He’s nothing more than a TE2 flyer for Week 7, but that’s all we’re getting off waivers right now.
