Incoming St Helens signing Sean O’Sullivan is already planning his future beyond 2027 – and it’s not with the Red Vee.
The NRL half-back has agreed terms with Kevin Walters’ side for next year, but with his future open beyond that, the 28-year-old is already eyeing up his next career move.
O’Sullivan is one of two players reported to tour the brand-new PNG Chiefs facilities in Port Moresby. The Chiefs, who will be led by outgoing Hull KR boss Willie Peters, are still in the midst of acquiring their squad before they enter the NRL in 2028.
Per The Australian, the half-back will join Canberra Raiders back-rower Hudson Young in touring the new set-up, with both players in talks to join the newly-formed franchise ahead of their inclusion in the southern hemisphere competition.
The Chiefs are not officially allowed to talk to NRL players until November 1 of this season, but have already made some stellar signings, including Jarome Luai, Alex Johnston and Matty Lees.
Should O’Sullivan join the club, it is expected that he will be used as a depth signing. Given the current additions, the Chiefs are expected to bring in yet another superstar to partner Luai in the playmaking positions.
The Canterbury Bulldogs man is one of three confirmed St Helens signings ahead of the new season, as he joins Christian Tuipulotu and Solomona Faataape in arriving at the BrewDog Stadium. Canberra Raiders hooker Tom Starling is also all but confirmed to have agreed a deal with the Red Vee.
