PSG’s win over Strasbourg on Saturday came at a cost.
The Parisians came back to win the game, but at full time it became clear that Nuno Mendes – who came on as a second half sub as Luis Enrique looked to turn the game around – had a muscle injury.
It’s frustrating as he had been rested both for last weekend’s game against Le Mans and the first half against Strasbourg. But an explosive player like the Portugal star is always vulnerable to muscle problems.
Of course, this is a huge blow for PSG. Mendes is the best left back in the world, for most people.
His backup, Lucas Digne, struggled at the start of the season, but looks to have improved a little in recent appearances, and will now have to show why they went out to sign him in the summer.
There should be no issues in the league – but it’s just a tragedy for football fans in general that they won’t get to see Mendes against Hansi Flick’s Barca tomorrow night.

PSG fired three past Strasbourg late in the game to earn an important away win, although it did come at the cost of Mendes.
Luis Enrique changed his team heavily for the game, and it almost backfired. But in the end PSG get the points and a rest for some key starters.
Marquinhos was not in the team to face Strasbourg as Luis Enrique continued his strict rotation policy.
