LSU women's basketball will welcome a special guest in Baton Rouge for its game against Texas Southern on Thursday. Angel Reese will be in the PMAC and honored at halftime of the contest, according to a social media post from the team on Tuesday.
Head coach Kim Mulkey alluded to a surprise on Thursday following her team's season-opening win against Southeastern Louisiana on Monday. She coached Reese for two seasons and helped her to a first-round selection in the 2024 WNBA Draft. During her time donning the purple and gold, Reese earned All-SEC first team and All-American status twice.
Reese recorded one of the best WNBA seasons on record in 2026 as one of the game's top stars, earning the Defensive Player of the Year award for her performance with the Atlanta Dream. She set single-season marks as the first player in league history to surpass 500 total rebounds, along with recording over 30 double-doubles.
The former Tiger played in the first postseason basketball game of her professional career and had her team one win away from a WNBA championship. Through the playoffs, Reese averaged 16.1 points, 11 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.7 blocks, and 1.4 steals per game. She became the first player in league history to post double-doubles in each of her first three Finals games.
