Leeds United’s trip to Sunderland resulted in a fifth draw from eight Premier League games as the Whites kept a clean sheet but failed to score the decisive goal at the Stadium of Light.

In a day largely controlled by Storm Boelo, neither side could provide the telling touch to secure all three points. But who were the winners and losers from Sunday’s result, which was, in truth, a difficult watch.

Leeds United’s winners from 0-0 Sunderland draw

James Trafford – A brilliant performance from England’s second-choice goalkeeper. He might have said the “wind was really windy” in his post-match interview, but on the pitch, Trafford is making no faux pas.

Some superb saves, keeping Sunderland at bay and winning this third Premier League clean sheet in eight games. LeedsUnited.News handed Trafford a rating of 9/10, Leeds’ best on the day, and he deserved it.

TalkingPoints

Leeds are held to a goalless draw against Sunderland in blustery conditions. What did you make of that performance?

Jaka Bijol – A surprise inclusion in the side given Nico Elvedi’s consistency and form since his bargain £6.8m arrival from Gladbach. Bijol has been made to wait patiently, as he had to do during 2025-26.

But the Slovenia ace reminded everyone on Sunday that he is more than capable at this level, even if he has not played in a while. Is it enough to start over Elvedi? That’s unlikely. But it was a good performance.

James Justin – With Joe Rodon back on the pitch and doing individual training, Justin’s starting spot in the side is under threat. The England defender has been superb in Rodon’s absence, as he always is.

Justin was excellent once again on Sunday. It is fair to say that alongside Ethan Ampadu, Justin is now one of the Leeds’ most reliable players. The former Leicester man is always producing 7/10 performances.

Harry Wilson – It’s been a tricky start to life for Wilson at Elland Road, with big pressure on his shoulders after having a hand in 17 Premier League goals last term. He’s started two of Leeds’ eight league games.

Wilson impressed during his performance on Sunday. While there were periods where he went missing somewhat given the nature of the game, he was a threat from set-pieces. He proved a point on Sunday.

Leeds United’s losers from 0-0 Sunderland draw

Jayden Bogle – An uncharacteristically poor performance from Leeds’ flying wing-back. The right-back’s crossing and end product were particularly below par, and he took his frustration out on Sunderland.

A silly foul in the 64th minute was followed by a yellow card moments later. Bogle needs to look over his shoulder with Rodon returning, potentially freeing up Justin. Performances like this could see him axed.

TalkingPoints

Our ratings are in for Leeds' draw against Sunderland. Who impressed you and why?

Lukas Nmecha – Going into the game, there was a feeling that Nmecha could start with Dominic Calvert-Lewin nursing a foot injury. But to Nmecha’s frustration, Calvert-Lewin got the all-clear to start the game.

He did come off the bench towards the end of the match as Leeds pushed for a winner, but Nmecha inadvertently blocked Longstaff’s late effort towards goal. With his contract expiring, he will be frustrated.

Sean Longstaff – Longstaff came off the bench and came incredibly close to scoring the winner. The experienced midfielder played well when he came on, but was somewhat unlucky at the Stadium of Light.

He might have dreamt of scoring the winner on Wearside as a Geordie, but Longstaff’s first effort was tipped round the post before his second effort was blocked by Nmecha. Unlucky, he almost won it.
