Alexander Isak explains why Liverpool fans do not need to panic despite consecutive defeats

One of the few positives to come out of Liverpool’s dismal defeat against Fenerbahce on Wednesday was that it yielded another goal for Alexander Isak.

Isak nodded home Cody Gakpo’s cross just minutes after coming off the bench to finally open his Champions League account for the Reds.

Sadly for supporters, Liverpool unravelled against Fenerbahce soon after, throwing away the lead that Isak had given them to lose the game within the final 20 minutes. Coming on the back of a frustrating loss to Arsenal on Sunday, fans would be within their rights to be worried about the direction of travel under Andoni Iraola. According to Isak, though, the Reds are still in a good position to bounce back.

Isak not worried by Liverpool defeats

After some really promising progress since the October international break, Liverpool look set to head into the next pause in the club football calendar in disappointing shape.

Only a win against Crystal Palace will lift the mood, and given the difficult nature of trips to Selhurst Park, supporters could be forgiven for expecting another defeat.

Isak is more upbeat, however, telling LFCTV that the Reds are not in a ‘chaos situation’ thanks to some better results earlier in the campaign.

“I think we’ve put ourselves in good positions, so that, as today, if we lose games it’s not a chaos situation,” said the 27-year-old.

“We just need to get back to winning ways, and if we win the next game we’re back to a really good position.”

Isak reacts to first Champions League goal for Liverpool

On a night where so many Liverpool players had no reason to be pleased with their performances, Isak was one of the few who could hold his head high.

It has been a long wait for the No. 9 to score his first Champions League goal with the Reds, and having showed off his clinical instincts to beat Ederson, he deserved better from the final result.

Asked about his goal after the game, Isak admitted that although he was always happy to score, the result on the night took the shine from the moment.

““I was happy with it at the time, I was hoping it was going to lead to more,” he said. “I’m always happy to score goals but today we lost, so it takes a bit [away] from it.”
