The New England Patriots are taking on the Green Bay Packers in what should be a fierce battle between two elite teams. Given all of the injuries at wide receiver for the Patriots, for this week’s Gimme Him, I am taking Packers standout Matthew Golden.
Golden is experiencing a Year 2 breakout after catching 29 passes for 361 on 44 targets as a rookie last season. He has nearly doubled his production halfway into the 2026 season with 43 catches for 619 yards and four touchdowns. His breakout game came in the opener against the Minnesota Vikings, when he hauled in six catches for 95 yards.
However, his best game of the season to this point came against the Chicago Bears in Week 5, when he racked up six catches for 123 yards.
The Patriots have struggled with health issues at the wide receiver position throughout the season. Their prized trade acquisition, A.J. Brown, is currently sidelined with a knee and ankle injury. Romeo Doubs is on injured reserve with a shoulder injury, and Mack Hollins is just now making his way back from IR with a calf injury.
With Brown, Doubs and Hollins sidelined, the Patriots have been forced to lean on the tight ends, along with wideouts DeMario Douglas, Efton Chism III and Kyle Williams to take on a bigger role.
Golden would be an instant impact player in New England's offense.
The speed and ability to separate consistently would elevate a unit that hasn't had a consistent go-to option all season. Brown has either not been available or has struggled mightily when he has been on the field. Adding a young playmaker like Golden would be a game-changer for the Patriots.
Of course, the Packers would never agree to part with Golden, especially now that he's hitting his stride at the NFL level. Instead of joining Drake Maye and company, he'll be a headache for Patriots defensive coordinator Zak Kuhr to deal with on Sunday.
