Raskin was first to interview his team-mate after the news broke, joking: “Well done James, what do you want me to ask? What is the question? How do you feel to be called up, brother?”
Penrice replied: “Incredibly proud. Buzzing for my family as well.”
Raskin then joked about Belgian boss Pocognoli’s decision to select the Rangers defender. He said: “Well-deserved. I always knew Belgian managers have good eyes to see players!”
Penrice responded: “Agreed!”
Speaking to Rangers TV afterwards, Penrice revealed he had only discovered he was in the squad minutes before heading out for training. He said: “Five minutes before I came out.
“Kev zoomed round in the cart and came right up to me and just went… and I went, ‘Oh my God, unreal!’”
Penrice admitted an international call-up was something he could scarcely have imagined earlier in his career. He added: “I’ve waited a wee while, but I knew coming back to Scotland, coming to Rangers, it would help my cause.
“It’s credit to the boys in there as well. They’ve helped me incredibly, and I’m just buzzing.
“It’s a weird feeling because I didn’t ever think going through the early part of the career, I would ever be called up. But it’s happened now, so I’m just delighted.
“It’s an incredibly proud moment for me and my family.”
