The Las Vegas Raiders ended a four-game losing streak by defeating the New York Jets in Week 8. They'll face a stiff matchup versus the San Francisco 49ers in Week 9. The offensive line will especially have a difficult matchup with the 49ers' defensive line.
It's fair to say the Raiders' offensive line has underperformed this season. The run-game has especially been underwhelming. The Raiders are already on their third starting right guard, with rookie Trey Zuhn receiving the latest opportunity. None of those decisions have been injury related.
The 49ers have registered just 15 sacks in seven games. The advanced metrics indicate they've been better than that. The Raiders have allowed 11 sacks, with only three offenses allowing fewer sacks.
The 49ers' pass-rush-win-rate is 49%, according to ESPN Analytics. That ranks 20th in the league. Meanwhile, the Raiders' pass-blocking-win-rate is 63%, second-best among NFL offensive lines. The 49ers have talented pass rushers such as Nick Bosa, DeForest Buckner (recently acquired via trade), Mykel Williams, Keion White, and Romello Height. The matchup won't be straightforward.
Some of the 49ers' pass-rushing metrics will definitely improve now that they've traded for Buckner. Many metrics favor the Raiders' offensive line, but the challenge will be bigger than some realize.
