Everton are exploring a move to sign Dinamo Zagreb striker Dion Drena Beljo.

David Moyes is eyeing Drena Beljo ahead of the January transfer window, with Thierno Barry needing competition up front.

Drena Beljo has been in prolific form for the reigning Croatian champions this term, netting 17 goals whilst laying on eight assists in just 17 appearances.

Everton News has spoken exclusively to Croatian football expert Callum Boyle to get the lowdown on what to expect from the towering frontman.

Boyle discusses Drena Beljo’s strengths, weaknesses, valuation and whether he’s capable of making the transition to the Premier League with Everton.

What are your thoughts on a potential move for Marcus Rashford? 👀 Everton and Man United are said to be in talks over January move…

What are Dion Drena Beljo’s strengths?

“Beljo’s main strengths rely on combining his hold-up play with movement in the box,” Boyle told Everton News.

“He likes to bring the ball down with his back to goal, laying it off to the attacking midfielders and then moving into the box. Despite being so tall (6’5”), he is also able to turn away and break at speed which makes him great to break through lines for one-on-one finishing.

“The best compliment I can give him is that he is rarely static and is a nightmare for defenders in the box.”

What are Drena Beljo’s weaknesses?

“Honestly, as far as he goes, he is a pretty complete striker. Certainly for Dinamo anyway.

“His height means he can sometimes be clunky on the ball and while he can move at speed, he isn’t the quickest striker in the world. As you would expect, his close control dribbling isn’t elite-level standard either.”

How much would it cost for Everton to sign Drena Beljo?

“He is Dinamo’s prized asset. He scores most of their goals, has been consistent ever since he joined and is obviously in the national team picture at Croatia.

“They rely on him in Europe as well as domestically and in this market, it’s entirely plausible to see them asking for anywhere north of £20-25m.

“In this current climate you would say that’s not a lot. But then again, Croatia’s top flight is not one of the strongest on the continent.”

Is Drena Beljo capable of making the transition to the Premier League with Everton?

“Beljo has already tried and failed in a top five European league before. He signed for Augsburg when he was young and never really got going and struggled to adapt.

“He went on loan to Rapid Vienna while there and did score goals for them and everywhere else he has been prolific. That Augsburg move might’ve been too early for him in his career but I think he could certainly offer something.

“Maybe not a 20-goal-a-season every season, but he would be a great focal point and with the likes of Dewsbury-Hall and Grealish creating chances for him, there’s no reason why he couldn’t adapt.”
