The Tampa Bay Buccaneers moved on from a former Denver Broncos quarterback this week.
The Bucs cut quarterback Brett Rypien from their practice squad following the return of Baker Mayfield, who was back under center last week after recovering from a thumb injury. Rypien signed in September to provide more depth following Mayfield's injury. Jalon Daniels remains Mayfield's primary backup, and Tampa also has Easton Stick available on the practice squad.
Rypien, 30, is the nephew of two-time Super Bowl champion Mark Rypien. The younger Rypien entered the league as an undrafted free agent out of Boise State with the Broncos in 2019, and he spent the first four years of his NFL career in Denver. Rypien went 2-1 as a fill-in starter with the Broncos and has since spent time with nine other NFL teams.
Elsewhere on the ex-Bronco front, defensive lineman Haggai Chisom Ndubuisi had a tryout with the Las Vegas Raiders; the Buffalo Bills signed cornerback A.J. Woods to their practice squad; the New Orleans Saints cut wide receiver Kyrese Rowan from their practice squad; the Philadelphia Eagles cut offensive tackle Xavier Truss from their practice squad; the Cincinnati Bengals hosted tight end Caden Prieskorn for a tryout; and the Washington Commanders worked out safety Delarrin Turner-Yell.
