Dujon Sterling appears to have been given the green signal to feature in the game between Rangers and Dundee at Dens Park this weekend.
Derek McInnes handed Sterling a start against Kilmarnock last week, and with the team up 3-0 at half-time, the manager decided to take him off. Later, he stated that the defender had tonsillitis and that he did not feel 100 per cent.
However, Rangers got a boost earlier this week, as Sterling was back in full first-team training and is expected to feature on Saturday.
The defender is one of the best in Scotland…
Dr Rajpal Brar, an injury expert and sports scientist, has assessed Sterling’s injury record and has listened to what McInnes has said, along with the reporting about his situation this week. Based on that, he does not see any reason why the 26-year-old can not only start, but also play the full 90 minutes on the weekend.
However, he asserted that it is important for the right-back to train normally in the build-up to the game if there are plans to make him play the entire match. As things stand, there is nothing to suggest that the right-back has any issues going into the game.
Speaking exclusively to Rangers News, Sterling said: “I can go by what’s being reported and what I’m hearing from the manager. If he was not fit for the last game, then he would not have started.
“What I’m reading about him being back in full first-team training is a positive, and I reckon he should be able to play the full 90 minutes if needed, given that he trains without any issues in the build-up to the weekend’s game.”
Being ready to play 90 minutes is one thing and actually playing that amount of time, another. McInnes will be aware of Sterling’s injury history, and given his importance to the team, he may look to monitor his minutes.
If the game is won and bringing Sterling off is not going to have an impact on the outcome, there is a possibility that he comes off for Kosta Nedeljkovic. Also, if the Rangers boss is looking for legs on the right side if his team are chasing the game, he could make a change at right-back as well.
