Leeds Rhinos announce fifth signing as NRL prop agrees deal

Leeds Rhinos have confirmed their fifth signing ahead of the 2027 Super League season with NRL prop Wiremu Greig announced as their latest addition.

Reports emerged down under that the North Queensland Cowboys would sign a two-year deal with the Super League club in a move that would reunite the Kiwi with former Parramatta boss Brad Arthur.

Leeds have now announced that Greig has signed a one-year deal with the option of a second year as well, whilst the Rhinos have also announced that Matt Lodge, who had signed a similar deal for the end of the 2026 campaign, has departed the club.

A club statement from the Rhinos read: “Leeds Rhinos have strengthened their forward pack with the signing of prop Wiremu Greig, 26, on a one-year contract, with a further one-year option.”

The 26-year-old arrives after making 30 NRL appearances, 27 of which came at Parramtta where he made his debut under current Leeds boss Brad Arthur.

Leeds Rhinos sign Wiremu Greig for 2027

Greig becomes Leeds’ fifth signing for 2027 after the additions of Dylan Walker, Morgan Gannon, Edenn Rogers-Smith and Nick Cotric, whilst he also becomes the club’s tenth overseas quota player.

As such, his arrival spells Matt Lodge’s exit, with sporting director Ian Blease confirming: “We would like to thank Matt for his time at the club. I know he enjoyed the experience a lot but with a young family in Australia, he is looking at options back home for next season.”

On Greig’s signing, Blease said: “Wiremu is a strong addition to our forward pack. He has experience in the NRL and has come through a good system in Australia, so he understands what is required to compete at a high level.

“We believe he has the attributes to make a positive contribution to our squad. He gives us another option in the middle, and we are looking forward to seeing him come in, settle into the group and make an impact.

“The one-year deal, with an option for a further season, gives both the club and Wiremu an opportunity to build on what we hope will be a successful first year at Leeds similar to how we brought through Cooper Jenkins a couple of years ago.”
