The New York Knicks entered the 2026-27 NBA season with high expectations after winning the championship last season. However, their title defense has gotten off to a disastrous start, with the team losing its first three games.
While the early struggles have raised concerns about the defending champions, Mikal Bridges has also found himself under the spotlight for his disappointing performances.
The official X account of the Real Sports App recently highlighted Bridges’ scoring numbers from the Knicks’ opening three games.
The forward recorded 4 points against the Philadelphia 76ers, failed to score in the loss to the Boston Celtics, and managed 6 points against the Orlando Magic. That leaves Bridges averaging just 3.3 points per game through the first three games.
The post soon went viral, and reactions from NBA fans quickly followed.
One fan questioned why Bridges was receiving less attention than other struggling players around the league. They wrote, “He’s playing worse than Klay Thompson and Tim Hardaway Jr but all you hear is Miami Heat slander. Make it make sense…”
Klay Thompson is currently averaging 10.0 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 0.7 assists per game, while Tim Hardaway Jr. is putting up 5.3 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 0.7 assists per game.
The comparison highlighted frustration with Bridges’ lack of offensive production through the opening three games. The reaction also pointed toward the criticism directed at the Miami Heat over their performances, with the fan suggesting the Knicks forward’s struggles deserved similar attention.
Another fan brought up a former Los Angeles Lakers player. Theysaid, “Hey Dalton, you’re replacing him whewww.”
Before Knecht was waived by the Lakers, Los Angeles had explored trades involving him. After he became a free agent, the Knicks emerged as one of the teams interested in signing him and ultimately added him on a two-way deal.
The joke was particularly timely because Knecht had already joined the Knicks on a two-way contract after being waived by the Lakers earlier in the week.
The most common reaction among fans was that they highlighted just how poorly Bridges has been performing in the Knicks’ opening games.
“This the Bridges we know [trashcan emoji],” postedone user, whereas another one wrote, “Play-in team at this rate.”
The Knicks will next face the Detroit Pistons on Tuesday as they look to end their disappointing start to the season. With New York desperate for its first win, all eyes will be on Bridges to see whether he can bounce back from his early struggles.
