Cam Newton is the only Most Valuable Player in Carolina Panthers franchise history. Steve Smith Sr. is the most popular player to ever suit up for the team. However, the guy who played his position better than anybody else played their own is linebacker Luke Kuechly—who was enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame back in August as part of the class of 2026.
Today, the Panthers honored Kuechly's immortalization—presenting him with his Ring of Excellence at halftime of their matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. While the vibes could be better, as the home team is staring at a 33-6 deficit during the break, here are some of the sights and sounds from the day . . .
Kuechly, even in an abbreviated career, put together one of the more decorated résumés you'll see. Over his eight-year run, he was the 2012 Defensive Rookie of the Year, 2013 Defensive Player of the Year, a five-time first-team All-Pro, a two-time second-team All-Pro and a seven-time Pro Bowler.
Not only was Kuechly a special competitor, he also set a high standard at all times for how a professional conducts himself. He was nothing but class from start to finish.
These days, Kuechly works as a broadcast analyst for multiple networks, while moonlighting as an assistant for Greg Olsen's high school football team in Charlotte.
