CAF Champions League-bound Ampem Darkoa Ladies thank GFA, Ghanaians for support

WAFU B Women’s Champions, Ampem Darkoa Ladies have expressed gratitude to the Ghana Football Association, their supporters and Ghanaians following their qualification for the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League, with special appreciation extended to GFA General Secretary, lawyer Prosper Harrison Addo, for his leadership throughout the club’s successful appeal process.

The Ghanaian champions secured their place at the continental showpiece after defeating Nigeria’s Edo Queens 3-2 in the continuation of the WAFU Zone B qualifying final in Egypt on Thursday, October 29, 2026.

The decisive victory followed a prolonged dispute over the original fixture, which ended 2-2 before Edo Queens won on penalties. Ampem Darkoa challenged the outcome and won, and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) subsequently upheld their verdict on appeal, directing that the match resume at extra time.

Club President, Nana Opoku Fosu Gyeabour II praised the GFA, particularly its General Secretary, lawyer Prosper Harrison Addo, for providing leadership and guiding the club through the judicial process that ultimately paved the way for their qualification.

“We thank all stakeholders, particularly lawyer Prosper Harrison Addo, who led our petition and subsequently won at the appeal hearing,” Nana Opoku Fosu Gyeabour II said.

The club president was also full of praise for the President of the Ghana Football Association, Mr. Edwin Kurt Simeon-Okraku, for his leadership, encouragement and his resolve that the club should be calm and follow the regulations.

Ampem Darkoa Ladies FC acknowledged the contributions of women football clubs, the supporters and Ghanaians whose encouragement and backing helped the team through a challenging period.

“We are also grateful to our the women's football clubs, the supporters and all Ghanaians for their varied levels of support, which contributed to our qualification for the CAF Women’s Champions League,” he added.

Nana Opoku Fosu Gyeabour II said the club was now focused on representing Ghana with pride at the continental competition, where Ampem Darkoa Ladies will face some of Africa’s leading women’s clubs.

“We hope to represent our country very well.” he said.

Their success, achieved after both a legal challenge and a decisive performance on the pitch, has made them West Africa Zone B Champions and secured a Ghanaian representation at the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League once again.

This will be Ampem Darkoa Ladies FC's second appearance at the CAF Women’s Champions League, their first journey ending in top 4 in 2023
