African champions Mamelodi Sundowns will battle Algeria’s USM Alger for continental supremacy when the two giants meet in the TotalEnergies CAF Super Cup 2026 at the Loftus Stadium in Tshwane, South Africa, on Sunday, November 8.
The highly anticipated showdown will kick off at 15:00 local time (13:00 GMT) and will bring together the winners of Africa’s two major club competitions in a battle for one of the continent’s most prestigious trophies.
Sundowns enter the fixture as winners of the 2025/26 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League, while USM Alger secured the CAF Confederation Cup title, setting up an exciting Interclub clash between two of Africa’s most successful sides in recent years.
The winner will take home USD 500,000, while the runners-up will receive USD 250,000, as CAF continues to increase the commercial value and global profile of African club football.
Mamelodi Sundowns qualified for the CAF Super Cup after capturing their second CAF Champions League title in May. The South African giants defeated Morocco’s AS FAR 2-1 on aggregate in the final to secure another historic continental triumph.
The Brazilians will be hoping to add another Super Cup trophy to their cabinet after previously lifting the title in 2017, when they defeated DR Congo giants TP Mazembe 1-0.
Known for their attacking style, technical quality and dominance in South African football, Sundowns will rely on their experience in major continental matches as they aim to claim another piece of silverware in front of their home supporters.
USM Alger, meanwhile, arrive in Tshwane after winning their second CAF Confederation Cup title. The Algerian side overcame Egyptian giants Zamalek in a dramatic final, winning 8-7 on penalties after the two-legged tie ended 1-1 on aggregate.
The victory added to their first Confederation Cup success in 2023, a remarkable year that also saw USM Alger win the CAF Super Cup after defeating Egyptian powerhouse Al Ahly 1-0.
The Algerian club will be aiming to repeat that success and prove their strength against one of Africa’s elite teams.
Sunday’s encounter will not be the first meeting between the two clubs on the continental stage.
Sundowns and USM Alger previously faced each other during the group stage of the 2019/20 CAF Champions League, with the South African side winning both fixtures.
Sundowns secured a narrow 1-0 victory in Algiers before completing the double with a 2-1 home win, giving them a slight psychological advantage heading into the Super Cup clash.
The midfield battle is expected to play a crucial role in determining the outcome. Sundowns’ ability to control possession and dictate the tempo will be tested by a disciplined USM Alger side known for their organisation and resilience.
Both teams also possess quality attacking options, meaning defensive concentration will be vital throughout the 90 minutes.
Mamelodi Sundowns will have the advantage of home support and arrive with strong continental experience, but USM Alger have already shown they can compete at the highest level after conquering Africa’s second-tier competition.
A closely fought contest is expected, with Sundowns’ attacking quality likely to make the difference.
Prediction: Mamelodi Sundowns 2-1 USM Alger
