Former Hearts of Oak forward Bernard Arthur has hinted at the possibility of bringing his professional football career to an end, with his focus shifting towards his family, business interests and enjoying life outside the game.
The 29-year-old attacker is currently unattached, having last featured for Malaysian outfit Melaka FC. However, he insists he has not officially retired and remains open to returning to active football if the right offer comes his way.
Speaking in an interview with Koforidua-based Swiit FM, Arthur explained that he is no longer willing to accept offers that do not meet his expectations, as he considers his next move carefully.
“I have not retired entirely from football, but I am edging closer to the end of my career. At this stage, I do not accept offers that fall below my expectations. I have decided to spend time with my family, focus on my businesses and enjoy life a little,” he said.
The former Liberty Professionals forward added that only a convincing offer would persuade him to return to the pitch, although he believes he still has the ability to compete at the professional level.
“Only a convincing offer will trigger my return to the pitch, but I have not retired. I feel I can still play active football,” he added.
Arthur began his professional career with Liberty Professionals in 2017 before moving abroad in search of new opportunities. During his career, he featured for Tanzanian side Azam FC and Algerian outfit AS Aïn M’lila.
He subsequently returned to Ghana to play for Hearts of Oak before embarking on another spell abroad, where he featured for clubs including FK Apolonia and Al-Taqadom, among others.
With his immediate priorities now centred on family and business, Arthur appears content to take his time before deciding whether to continue his playing career, leaving the door open for a possible return if an offer meets his expectations.
