Thomas-Asante Assist Not Enough as Tottenham Beat Coventry 3–1
Thomas-Asante Assist Not Enough as Tottenham Beat Coventry 3–1

Ghana international Brandon Thomas-Asante registered his second consecutive Premier League assist, but Coventry City suffered a 3–1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Monday, October 19, at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The newly promoted visitors entered the Matchweek 7 encounter hoping to build on their impressive 4–1 victory over Newcastle United. However, goals from James Maddison, Omar Marmoush and Ben Davies handed Frank Lampard’s side their fifth defeat in seven league matches.

Tottenham took the lead in the 14th minute when Ghana midfielder Mohammed Kudus supplied Maddison, who finished to put the hosts ahead.

Coventry responded four minutes after the interval through a move involving Thomas-Asante. The forward delivered the pass for Jack Rudoni to score, bringing the visitors level at 1–1 and briefly raising hopes of another positive result.

Their advantage in momentum proved short-lived, with Marmoush restoring Tottenham’s lead in the 58th minute. Davies then secured the victory in the sixth minute of second-half stoppage time.

Spurs controlled much of the contest, recording 66 per cent possession and attempting 15 shots, five of which were on target. Coventry managed six efforts, with two testing the goalkeeper.

The hosts also finished with a passing accuracy of 93 per cent, compared with Coventry’s 79 per cent.

Thomas-Asante played 78 minutes before being replaced by Ephron Mason-Clark. Alongside his assist, he drew four fouls and completed six of his nine passes.

Although Coventry left without a point, his contribution provided another encouraging sign for Lampard. The Ghanaian remains among the club’s leading players for Premier League goal involvements this season as the promoted side seeks greater consistency.
