Real Valladolid secured a vital 4-3 victory over CD Leganés at Estadio José Zorrilla, ending a two-game losing streak and climbing away from the La Liga relegation zone, MARCA reported. The seven-goal thriller featured the first two goals of Álvaro Morata’s career with Leganés, known as the pepineros, but the visitors ultimately fell short as Valladolid claimed their fourth league win of the campaign—all of which have come on home soil.
Valladolid established control early in the match, taking the lead when Miguel Rubio headed home a corner kick delivered by Tay Abed and flicked on by Iván Alejo. Millán soon atoned for his earlier miss by converting from close range after Dani Rodríguez’s initial effort was cleared off the goal line by defender Sergio Tomeo. However, Valladolid restored their two-goal cushion shortly before halftime through another set-piece routine. Víctor Jr. whipped in a corner that was once again met by Rubio inside a crowded six-yard box.
Raúl Fernández was forced into a sharp save to deny Tay Abed a third for Valladolid, but the Leganés goalkeeper could do nothing to stop the subsequent wave of attacks. A fluid team move started by Thiago Ojeda unlocked the Leganés defense, culminating in a clever backheel assist from César Ponceau that allowed young forward Arnu to tap into an empty net from close range, sending the home side into the interval with a commanding advantage.
Despite the visiting pressure, Valladolid struck again when Arnu struck the goalpost, and Tay Abed reacted fastest to turn the rebound into an empty net for the hosts’ fourth goal. Leganés refused to surrender, and Morata reduced the deficit with a precise low shot following an assist from Álex Sancris. Morata struck again in the dying moments, converting a layoff from Unax del Cura to set up a frantic finish at 4-3, but the final whistle sounded before the visitors could find an equalizer.
The result lifts Valladolid away from the immediate drop zone, bringing their season total to four victories while maintaining a perfect home-form correlation in terms of wins. Meanwhile, Leganés extended their winless run to six matches, a difficult stretch that includes five defeats and leaves the Madrid-based club mired in the relegation battle.
