Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca has provided an update on the condition of Ghana international Antoine Semenyo after the forward picked up a knock during the club’s Premier League victory over Ipswich Town.
The Black Stars attacker came off the bench as City secured a thrilling 3-2 win over Ipswich at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.
Semenyo replaced Belgian-Ghanaian winger Jeremy Doku in the 77th minute, but the victory was overshadowed by injury concerns involving several key players, including Erling Haaland, Nico O’Reilly, Matheus Nunes and Mateo Kovacic.
Speaking after the game, Maresca admitted the club would need to assess Semenyo’s condition while expressing hope that the injury is not serious.
“Hopefully they [Semenyo and Haaland] are good, but they are big players for us. Same for any team losing their best two players. It’s difficult for everyone, but we’ll see what’s happened and hopefully find a solution,” Maresca told Sky Sports.
The City boss later revealed that most of the injured players had provided positive feedback, but Semenyo remained the player they were waiting on.
“I asked all of them. Mateo said he was okay, Matheus said he was okay, Erling said he was also okay. Nico, it’s still his back. The only one we need to wait on was Antoine, and we will see,” he said.
Semenyo has enjoyed a strong start to life at Manchester City, contributing two goals and three assists in nine appearances across all competitions this season.
The Ghanaian forward will now undergo further assessment as City await clarity on his availability for upcoming fixtures.
