Kojo Peprah Oppong makes UEFA Champions League debut as Fenerbahçe share spoils with Slavia Prague

Ghanaian defender Kojo Peprah Oppong has made his UEFA Champions League debut for Turkish giants Fenerbahçe, featuring in their 2-2 draw against Slavia Prague.

The young centre-back was handed an opportunity to showcase his abilities on one of European football’s biggest stages, marking a significant milestone in his career as he continues to develop at the highest level.

Oppong played 69 minutes of the encounter, contributing defensively as Fenerbahçe battled Slavia Prague in a closely contested fixture that ended with both sides settling for a share of the spoils.

The Ghanaian defender demonstrated his defensive awareness and willingness to compete, winning four duels during his time on the pitch. His ability to engage opponents and challenge for possession formed part of his contribution to Fenerbahçe’s efforts to contain the Czech side.

Oppong also recorded two clearances and three interceptions, highlighting his involvement in disrupting Slavia Prague’s attacking moves and dealing with threats around the defensive area.

In addition, the defender registered three recoveries, showing his efforts to regain possession and help his team transition from defence to attack.

Although he was substituted after 69 minutes, the Champions League appearance represents an important step in Oppong’s football journey, offering him valuable exposure to the demands and intensity of elite European competition.

For Ghana, his involvement at this level will be worth monitoring as the country continues to follow the progress of its emerging talents in Europe. Regular opportunities in high-level club football could help him gain the experience and tactical understanding needed to strengthen his development.

Fenerbahçe will now look to build on the result as their European campaign continues, while Oppong will hope his Champions League debut opens the door to further opportunities with the Turkish club.

The 2-2 draw ensured that neither side claimed victory, but for the Ghanaian defender, the occasion was particularly memorable as he took his first steps in the UEFA Champions League.
