Ghana midfielder Jessica Appiah Asamoah has been named Player of the Match following the Black Maidens’ thrilling 3-3 draw against Brazil at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
The youngster delivered an impressive performance, playing a key role in Ghana’s attacking play with her creativity, energy and ability to break through the Brazilian defence.
Although Rafia Osman, Gloria Ameaa and substitute Priscilla Mensah scored Ghana’s goals, Jessica’s contribution proved crucial as the Black Maidens fought back to secure a point.
Her standout moment came in the 85th minute when she produced a defence-splitting pass for Mensah to score the equaliser after Ghana had fallen behind 3-2.
Jessica’s performance was reflected in her statistics, having recorded one assist, created four chances, the most in the match, won seven duels and completed three successful dribbles.
Her ability to influence the game in midfield and create opportunities helped Ghana recover from a difficult position against the South Americans.
The award comes as a timely boost for the Black Maidens, who are seeking to keep their hopes of progressing to the knockout stage alive.
Ghana have one point from their opening two Group C matches, having lost 3-0 to Norway before the draw against Brazil.
Coach Nana Adarkwa’s side must now secure victory against Canada in their final group match to stand a chance of advancing to the next stage of the competition.
