Leicester City reached the second round of the FA Cup but made hard work of it against non-league outfit Oxford City.

After a frustrating first 15 minutes it was the Foxes who got their noses in front as star man Louis Page scored his first professional goal in style with a rocket.

Play was far too sloppy and slow in the build-up and Russell Martin’s side were made to pay when Scott Pollock, who had a trial with Leicester as a kid, scored directly from the corner in an embarrassing moment.

After making a change at the break, Leicester put themselves back in front as Harry Howell’s cross was met by top scorer Emil Riis, who was able to head home from close range in a chance that was easier to miss. Kamari Doyle then made it goals in consecutive games as he gave Leicester a two-goal advantage.

Oxford City refused to lie down as Josh Ashby pounced on a wayward pass from John Lundstram before lobbing the ball over Franco Ravizzoli to give them a crumb of hope. Once again though, Leicester found a way as Tommy Watson finished off a great pass from Page. Here is how Leicester City News rated the Leicester players against Oxford City.

Leicester City are through to the second round of the FA Cup after getting past Oxford City. Give us your reaction to that performance

Leicester City player ratings vs Oxford City

Franco Ravizzoli – 3

Obviously had very little to do but then conceded by letting in a goal from a direct corner. Completely avoidable and was then lobbed for the hosts’ second. These things happen but it wasn’t a fluke and one he has to be doing better from.

Caleb Okoli – 2

A defender signed for more than £10m when the Foxes were in the Premier League and two years later he was substituted off at half time. Even if it was to go more attacking, that’s a damning reflection on his time at the club and the sooner both part ways with each other the better.

Warren O’Hora – 5

Didn’t disappoint but didn’t flatter. Was the experienced head of the back three going into the game and perhaps benefitted from being in the centre of that setup.

Ilari Kangasniemi – 6

A shaky start to begin with for the giant Finland U21 international but he looked more composed as the game went on. Isn’t afraid to get forward and was also made to play right-back, as well as a left-sided centre-back in a three-man defence. Would like to see more from him.

Luke Thomas – 3

Defensive frailties once again exploited after receiving an early yellow card for getting spun on the half way line. Martin was very complimentary of Luke Thomas earlier in the week but based on that display, he should be expecting to see a lot more.

John Lundstram (C) – 4

Sloppy, sloppy ball to give away for Oxford City’s second and as the captain and one of the most experienced players in the squad, he should be doing better.

Louis Page – 7

Alongside Howell, Page was the Foxes’ best player on the pitch. A brilliant strike to open his account for the club and dictated the play from a deeper role in the middle of the park.

Also grabbed two assists and is Leicester’s most important player in the squad.

Sammy Braybrooke – 5

Not his best game but he was by no means the worst on the pitch at all. Played a part in the build-up for the Foxes’ fourth with a pass to Page.

Kamari Doyle – 6

Another goal for the midfielder who always wants to be on the ball. Some good movement in the box and always tries to be positive in his play by carrying the ball forward. Has become a key player in recent weeks and fans are enjoying his performances.

Bobby De Cordova-Reid – 3

Another one of the senior players who failed to deliver. It is remarkable that those who signed in the Premier League seemed incapable of causing any sort of danger to a side playing in a division that is six tiers below the top flight of English football.

Emil Riis – 5

Did his job by being in the right place at the right time with an easy header but that’s why Leicester paid the money for him.

Substitutes

Harry Howell – 8

Martin’s substitutions have been called into question a couple of times this season but Howell certainly made an impact off the bench. A lovely cross for Riis’ goal before being the catalyst for the third.

Hard to get too excited given the level of opposition but he has given his manager food for thought after the international break.

Olabade Aluko – 5

A solid enough performance in the right-back slot but didn’t have too much to do.

Tommy Watson – 6

Little time to make an impact in a rare appearance but got a goal with a solid finish. A little reminder to Martin that he is capable of contributing, he just needs to start doing it in league games.
