Mikel Arteta has revealed Bukayo Saka requires more scans as Arsenal tries to get to the bottom of his latest injury.
The England international will be missing when the Gunners head to Liverpool on Sunday, having been out of action after injuring his quadricep during the 2-2 draw with Bayern Munich in the Champions League last week.
Initial reports indicated that Saka could be missing for a minimum of six weeks, although fluid around the affected muscle made diagnosing the injury difficult. Arteta is still waiting for more information on the issue, although the Arsenal boss doesn’t seem too confident.
"He needed another scan to see the amount of fluid there was resolving, afterwards we will know more about it,” Arteta said in his pre-match press conference on Friday.
Asked whether Saka would aso miss England’s upcoming international fixtures, the Arsenal boss responded: "Again, I don't know, it looks likely but we'll have to wait and see next week."
Although the Gunners will be without Saka, they do look to have been handed three injury boosts, with Arteta confirming that Riccardo Calafiori, Declan RIce and Christos Tzolis have all trained.
Get Liverpool's new 2026/27 home kit
Liverpool FC have launched their new home kit for the 2026/27, inspired by iconic adidas strip worn during the club's 1989/90 title-winning campaign.
Calafiori and Rice both missed Arsenal’s shock defeat to Fleetwood in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday, with Arteta indicating both had picked up injuries against Everton, while Tzolis has been out since suffering a hamstring problem while on international duty.
Noni Madueke remains a doubt though, with Arteta saying: "We don't know yet, we have a training session tomorrow, let's see if he can complete it."
The Gunners will definitely be without William Saliba, who is not expected to return from his back injury until late November at the earliest, while Max Dowman is suspended after his red card against Fleetwood.
Arsenal failed in its attempt to appeal the decision, with Arteta not happy that the case was rejected by an independent commission.
"Very disappointed to be fair especially with the reckless tackle that he received,” Arteta said. “His reaction is minimal in compared to the action
"It is what it is, we have put every argument on the table to make a case for it, not only [was] Max's action is clear, obviously we have a very different opinion, you have to read into the context, the age, the player. It could have been really bad and we're really lucky today that he doesn't have a broken foot."
