The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has announced the postponement of the AFC Champions League Elite third-round encounter between Saudi giants Al Nassr and UAE's Al Wasl. The clash, originally slated for Monday, October 26, 2026, at the King Saud University Stadium (Al-Awwal Park) in Riyadh, could not proceed as scheduled after Al Wasl encountered significant flight disruptions, making travel to the Saudi capital impossible. The decision comes amidst reports that the Dubai-based club was unable to secure flights to Riyadh, leading to their inability to arrive on time and prepare for the fixture. While the AFC has yet to specify an exact reason beyond "flight disruptions" in all its official statements, some reports have hinted at wider logistical challenges impacting regional sports events, including intensified conflict in Yemen and Houthi targets in Saudi Arabia.

AFC Statement and Future Fixture

The AFC confirmed the postponement in an official statement, indicating that "The new date and kick-off time for the match will be confirmed and announced in due course". No revised date for the crucial League Stage fixture has been announced at this time, leaving both clubs and fans awaiting further updates from Asian football's governing body.

Team Form and Head-to-Head

Al Nassr, featuring global superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, entered this fixture having won four of their last five matches across all competitions, including a 3-1 victory over Al-Faisaly on October 23. Domestically, they have shown strong form, remaining unbeaten in their last five league matches and sitting second in the table. Their AFC Champions League Elite campaign began with a 4-0 loss to Al-Ain, but they recovered with a 3-1 victory over Neftchi Fergana in their second outing.

Al Wasl, on the other hand, comes into this postponed match having been in impressive form overall, winning five of their last six matches and remaining unbeaten in their last three UAE Pro League fixtures. In the AFC Champions League Elite, however, they have had a challenging start, losing both of their opening matches against Al-Qadsiah and Al-Ahli. Recent Head-to-Head Record

The two clubs have met four times in recorded history, with Al Nassr holding a superior record:

Team Wins Losses Goals Scored Goals Conceded
Al Nassr 3 1 11 2
Al Wasl 1 3 2 11

The most recent encounter between the two sides was on April 19, 2026, where Al Nassr secured a dominant 4-0 victory over Al Wasl in the AFC Champions League Two.

The postponement undoubtedly causes disruption for both teams and their respective fan bases, highlighting the logistical complexities that can arise in continental club competitions. All eyes will now be on the AFC for the announcement of a new date to determine when these two West Asian rivals will finally go head-to-head on the pitch.
