Asante Kotoko midfielder Ntim Manu is reportedly set to leave the club at the end of the season, with his contract expected to expire without a renewal unless there is a significant turnaround in his recovery from a long-term knee injury.
The defensive midfielder has endured a frustrating spell on the sidelines after suffering a serious anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury that has kept him out of competitive action for almost two seasons.
According to reports, Manu’s recovery was initially delayed after opting for traditional treatment instead of undergoing immediate reconstructive surgery, a decision that prolonged his absence from the game.
Kotoko eventually facilitated surgery for the midfielder towards the end of last season after his previous contract had expired. In a show of faith and support, the club offered him a new one-year contract to aid his rehabilitation and provide him with an opportunity to return to full fitness.
Despite that gesture, Manu’s recovery has reportedly progressed slower than anticipated, leaving uncertainty over whether he will be able to regain full match fitness before the end of the current campaign.
With the club expected to review its squad ahead of next season, Kotoko are believed to be considering their options, and the midfielder’s long injury absence could work against him when contract decisions are made.
Unless there is marked improvement in his rehabilitation over the coming months, the former Kotoko midfielder is expected to part ways with the Porcupine Warriors once his contract expires.
Manu was regarded as one of Kotoko’s promising midfielders before his injury, earning praise for his ball-winning ability, tactical discipline and composure in possession. However, the prolonged setback has stalled what had been a promising career at the Baba Yara Stadium.
As Kotoko continue their rebuilding process and prepare for the future, the club will be hoping the midfielder can complete his recovery, regardless of whether his long-term future remains in Kumasi.
