The final positions of several African nations have been confirmed at the Under-15 World Cup in Azerbaijan, with Spain and Czech Republic set to contest the title on Friday evening.
The competition concludes on Friday after a format involving six divisions. Following the group stage, teams entered knockout matches and a series of classification games, allowing every side to be placed in the overall standings, including those eliminated from the title race.
Guinea finished sixth in Division A after losing 4-2 to Brazil, while Ghana claimed seventh place with a 4-0 victory over Colombia.
Morocco ended the tournament in 13th position overall. The Atlas Cubs made a perfect start in the group stage but saw their progress halted by a 1-0 defeat by Paraguay. They then lost 3-0 to Mexico before recovering with victories over Venezuela, whom they beat 4-3, and Egypt, against whom they recorded a 3-1 success.
Cameroon, who also qualified for Division A after beating Senegal 3-0 in the group stage, finished 23rd. The young Indomitable Lions suffered a heavy 9-2 defeat by Russia, but ended their campaign with a 2-0 win against Australia.
Algeria were placed 28th after a disappointing finish. Having performed well in the opening phase, the Young Fennecs struggled in the later matches and concluded their tournament with a 4-1 defeat by Northern Ireland.
Senegal finished 36th overall after missing out on the Division B final in a 4-3 defeat by Zambia. The Young Lions then lost to Argentina on penalties, with the match ending 1-1 before Argentina prevailed 5-4 in the shootout. Madagascar followed in 37th place.
Cote d’Ivoire secured 41st position after beating South Sudan 2-1 in their final classification match. The Elephants had previously lost 2-1 to Argentina before responding with a victory.
Mali ended the tournament 45th following a convincing 5-1 win over Costa Rica. The Democratic Republic of the Congo finished 101st after defeating Lithuania 6-4.
Tunisia were placed 66th after losing 3-0 to Belarus in the Division C final. Some African teams still have the opportunity to improve their positions: Zambia will face Portugal for 33rd place in Division B.
Central African Republic won the Division E final, beating Bangladesh 4-1, and finished 129th in the overall standings.
The world title will be decided on Friday evening when Spain meet Czech Republic in the Division A final.
