Hearts of Oak produced an impressive attacking display to sweep aside Heart of Lions 3-0 at the University of Ghana Stadium on Sunday, extending their unbeaten home run and moving into second place in the Ghana Premier League.
The Phobians needed just two minutes to take the lead, with Ransford Mensah finding the net with a left-footed effort after a scramble inside the Heart of Lions penalty area.
John Antwi doubled the advantage, ending his recent goal drought with a simple finish following a well-rehearsed free-kick routine. The set-piece created confusion in the visitors' defence, allowing the ball to fall kindly for the experienced forward to score.
Hearts picked up where they left off after the break, with Antwi completing his brace just two minutes into the second half after another well-constructed attacking move.
Antwi's contribution has proved valuable since joining the squad. He has now scored four of Hearts' 12 league goals this season, accounting for a third of their total after ten matches.
The Phobians have also made progress in front of goal compared to the same stage last season, when they had scored eight times after 11 matches.
Coach Nebojsa Kapor appears to have instilled greater belief and attacking confidence in the team, with their home form providing a strong foundation for their title challenge. Hearts have collected 13 of a possible 15 points at home and remain unbeaten at the University of Ghana Stadium.
The victory takes Hearts to second place, just one point behind defending champions Medeama, as they continue their pursuit of a first league title since 2021.
The defeat extends Hearts of Lions' difficult run. They have now managed just one victory in their last five league matches and remain under pressure as they look to avoid being dragged closer to the relegation zone.
