Bibiani GoldStars coach Petros Koukouras has wished Elmina Sharks goalkeeper William John Donkoh a speedy recovery after he underwent an amputation of his left leg following a motor accident in Cape Coast.
Donkoh sustained severe injuries in the accident on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, and underwent surgery on Wednesday night, Elmina Sharks confirmed in a statement dated October 22.
Koukouras expressed his sympathy for the goalkeeper after their win over Heart of Lions.
“First of all, before I say anything about the game, I want to wish William John Donkor of Elmina Sharks a speedy recovery because there are definitely more important things in life than football,” Koukouras said.
“When people are involved in terrible accidents like this, especially young people and footballers, it really affects everyone. So, I would like to wish him a very fast recovery. It was very bad news.”
Elmina Sharks said the incident had left the club’s board, management, players and supporters deeply saddened. The club also pledged to support Donkoh and his family throughout his recovery and beyond.
The goalkeeper’s injury has drawn attention to the impact of the accident on the young footballer, as he begins his recovery following the amputation.
