Medeama SC head coach Ibrahim Tanko insists his side will stick to its attacking philosophy when they travel to Kumasi to face Asante Kotoko in the Ghana Premier League on Sunday.
The Yellow and Mauve outfit will take on the Porcupine Warriors at the Baba Yara Stadium in a Matchday 9 encounter, with Tanko confident his players can produce another positive result against the Kumasi-based club.
Speaking ahead of the fixture, the Medeama coach described matches against Kotoko as exciting but believes his side’s performances in last season’s meetings will provide the players with the confidence needed for Sunday’s clash.
“I think it’s always very good and exciting to play against them, especially in Kumasi. And yeah, as I said, last year was good for us, and we won a point there and then beat them 4-0 at home,” he said.
Tanko, however, expects Kotoko to be highly motivated, knowing the results from their previous encounters, and believes the hosts will be well prepared for the challenge.
“So definitely, it’s at the back of their minds. So they are preparing very well to meet us,” he added.
Despite the challenge of playing away from home, Tanko has ruled out changing his team’s approach, insisting Medeama will remain committed to their attacking style and will travel to Kumasi with the ambition of securing a positive result.
“And, like I always say, we don’t change our style of play, whether at home or away. So definitely, we are going there to fight for something,” he said.
Medeama will be hoping to maintain their impressive form against Kotoko as they look to strengthen their position in the league standings.
Kotoko, meanwhile, will be keen to return to winning ways after being held to a 1-1 draw by AshantiGold in their previous fixture.
The Porcupine Warriors currently sit eighth on the league table with 12 points and will be looking to capitalise on home advantage to move closer to the teams at the top.
Kick-off at the Baba Yara Stadium is scheduled for 15:00 GMT on Sunday.
