According to a report by BBC Sport on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, Viktor Gyokeres produced an outstanding performance as Arsenal defeated Slavia Prague 2-1 in their UEFA Champions League encounter on Wednesday night.
The Swedish striker was instrumental in the Gunners' victory, registering an assist for the opening goal before finding the back of the net himself to give Mikel Arteta's side a two-goal advantage.
Arsenal started the match brightly and took the lead in the ninth minute through Noni Madueke. Gyokeres delivered an excellent long pass into the penalty area, picking out the winger, who took advantage of the space available before calmly firing into the bottom left corner.
The former Sporting CP striker continued to trouble Slavia Prague's defence with his movement, strength and attacking presence. He came close to doubling Arsenal's advantage in the 13th minute after meeting a cross inside the penalty area. However, his low effort towards the bottom left corner was brilliantly stopped by goalkeeper Nazar Domchak.
Arsenal maintained their attacking momentum and eventually scored a second goal in the 38th minute. Mikel Merino provided the pass into the penalty area, allowing Gyokeres to control the ball before quickly directing his effort towards goal. His strike hit the post before crossing the line and finding the right side of the net, leaving Domchak unable to prevent the goal.
Gyokeres' contribution ensured Arsenal went into the half-time interval with a comfortable two goal lead. His physical strength, intelligent positioning and finishing ability made him a constant threat to the home side's defence.
Although Arsenal found it more difficult to maintain their attacking dominance after the restart, the Swedish international had already made a significant difference to the contest. Arteta eventually substituted him in the 78th minute, bringing captain Martin Odegaard onto the pitch.
Slavia Prague managed to reduce the deficit through Wiktor Nowak in the 90th minute, setting up a tense finish. However, Arsenal defended their advantage during the closing stages to secure an important 2-1 away victory.
Gyokeres finished the encounter with one goal and one assist, making him one of the standout performers of the evening and a deserving recipient of Arsenal's Man of the Match recognition.
