Sports Minister, Kofi Adams Says The Next Black Stars Coach Should Spend More Time In Ghana

According to a report by Citi FM today being Thursday, October 15, 2026, the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has stated that the next head coach of Ghana’s senior national football team, the Black Stars, should spend more time in the country if the Ghana Football Association (GFA) decides to appoint a foreign coach.

According to the minister, the presence of a foreign coach in Ghana would be important for improving the team’s preparation, monitoring local football talent and strengthening the relationship between the technical team and players based in the country.

The Black Stars require effective leadership and proper planning as Ghana continues to work towards improving the team’s performances in international competitions.

The appointment of a new head coach is therefore expected to attract considerable attention from football supporters, particularly those who want to see the national team return to its competitive best.

Kofi Adams’ position suggests that the next coach should not operate mainly from outside Ghana while making occasional visits to oversee the team.

Instead, a foreign coach should be prepared to spend sufficient time in the country to understand the local football environment and follow the progress of players who could be considered for national team selection.

Being present in Ghana could also help the coach observe domestic league matches, assess the quality of local players and work more closely with stakeholders within the football system.

Such involvement may provide additional opportunities for talented Ghanaian players to demonstrate their abilities and earn consideration for the Black Stars.

The minister’s comments also highlight the importance of commitment and accessibility when choosing someone to lead the national team. Beyond coaching experience and international reputation, the next appointment may need to consider how well the individual can engage with Ghanaian football on a regular basis.

However, the success of the Black Stars will depend on several factors, including tactical preparation, player development, discipline, effective administration and cooperation between the coach and football authorities.

As discussions about the next head coach continue, Kofi Adams’ remarks have added to the debate over the qualities Ghana should prioritise when selecting a leader for its senior national team.
